I have made it past the first round of the Challenge Detroit Fellows Program. It's funny how everything happens for a reason. I found out about this amazing opportunity because a someone remembered how much I love Detroit. Her exact words were "Z" you should definitely apply for this. Brittany Galloway that's the best thing you could have done. I found out on Friday and the application was due that Sunday. By Tuesday I received and email stating that I made it out to the second round which would require me to create a video clip on myself and Detroit and being apart of the program. So I created a video and answered the essay questions as well as got a recommendation letter from literally someone on the streets of Detroit. Having gone down to the D so often to visit, hand out food to the homeless or simply to roam the streets. I've met a few individuals one woman in particular is a street performer who truly confirmed that I belong in Detroit. I wanted to showcase to Challenge Detroit that I look forward to not taking hold of a great opportunity but I look forward to BEING A PART of the CITY because I TRULY have a passion and love for Detroit and the people in Detroit. I will find out by March 24th if I made it on to the 3rd round which is where I will need EVERYONE's HELP with voting from April 1-7 and then they will select about 60 individuals for interviews and then the top 30 will be selected to make up the 2013-2014 Challenge Detroit Fellows team. I wanted to share with you all my Video as well as some of the clips of the Street performer Nyki Flyin. There is so much to Detroit and it needs to be marketed while things need to be changed, transformed and etc.. There are a lot of hidden gems that exist that simply just need to be exposed, and marketed. In the two years I have lived in Michigan in the Ypsilanti area I often hear from individuals in the city "Wow Zara you have been to more places in the D than I have" or from individuals outside the city "Wow Zara your crazy for going to the D so often". Truth is I love Detroit, I believe in Detroit and I am excited to be apart of the city and LEARN all about it. Because I will admit I have a lot to learn. I can honestly say I have gone to the city and never felt unsafe and the few individuals I have brought to Detroit that were skeptical about it. Fell in love with the city. I have done a lot from being on the outside, I cannot wait to get on the inside with the connections I have developed so far I can't wait to continue to bring people into the city who will fall in love and want to become a part of the city as well. I can't wait to be apart of re-energizing the individuals who live in the city. Well thank you for reading my rant about how I LOVE THE D here goes my challenge Detroit video and here goes a few unedited clips of Nyki Flyin, my adventures in the D and pictures and etc... Always remember to keep on Moving in Faith. What God has for us... is for us ;o).
March 7, 2013 I had the pleasure of speaking to all four of Mrs. Toth's classes for a dear friend of mine Angela Stanley who asked me to come and be a part of her unit on Biographies. I shared my story with her class, motivating and inspiring in the process often listening as I spoke. Thinking to myself I can see these young, beautiful, handsome, talented, intelligent STARS of the future and they are listening to my every word. They were all in tune, asking questions, participating and that made me feel so special, made me look back on my life thinking to myself. I HAVE COME so FAR and I have so much to GO. This is only the beginning and the 4 points I had to share were the pointers I received from my elementary school gym teacher at 4 years old. "Baby girl find what you are good at, work really hard at it, never give up and then you will become a star." Here is the video from one of the classes along with some video clips of students who left how they felt about my presentation today. Hey You all.. Just in case you were wondering... Here is the Amazing Mr. B that I talk about in my story. He is in the middle holding my elementary school year book and on the other side is my best friend since kindergarten as well. It is important to stay true to yourself and appreciate the people in your life that love and care for you. Some people will be in your life forever. As for these two gentlemen it has been 25 years and we are still going strong. There are good people in this world so keep on reaching out and eventually you will cross paths with the individual that will help and walk with you throughout life. I was blessed to find mine at 4 years old and I have no regrets. Love you all and keep on Moving in Faith... Ms. Z The hardest part of growth is dealing with yourself, learning who you are, accepting who you are, embracing who you are and loving who you are. Even the most confident people in the world face insecurities, have doubt and experience, pain, struggles and sadness. Know it is how they deal with, overcome and push through that makes them Victorious in Life, Conquerors of obstacles and Successful, Unique, Worthy individuals. No matter what always remember we are a lesson and while we are learning, we are teaching others. The poem below I wrote as I am sharing all of me with you because God makes no mistakes and I am Moving in Faith. It Rains so we can Reign Raindrops falling (swisshhhh drip drop) dripping all over the earth I am dazed, mesmerized, lost yet directed… The dim of the skies, the gloom of the view I am at peace deep within. I’m far from you. The, you called doubt and lack of control Self-sabotage usually follows, but my love is too strong No matter how determined, you I will fight. I will hold back the dagger I shout NO MORE. No more harming the Lord that is deep within me. How can I hate myself the girl in his image. My sins are unworthy, but he said you are my lineage The sight you see are because of my visions Your life is not yours but I respect your decisions Remember through it all Jesus has risen. I can redeem you for you are still my lesson To live for me and walk my unpaved path It is the road less traveled but the one that will last. Forever in his eyes your journey will get better Trust me my dear… I am your Father. I won’t steer you wrong, I will put your soul to rest, Stop and listen your mind is already at ease. Each morning I wake you up, so you can live out my tasks To love of yourself those present and past You are my story, my chance to show the world. That God’s light will shine no matter how dark, gloomy or gray. Reign drops are falling (swisshhhh drip drop) dripping all over the earth All over the earth, because of you are my worth. Zara Georgia Northover There is a story behind this picture and it runs real deep. You too can connect and know there is more than what you see. The trees have withstood change, they warm up the ice cold scenery. In this moment no one knows where the earth and the water begins. Look beyond the surface and then you will see. There is more to this picture than these two trees. I'm up... Up reflecting on the greatness of God, the blessings he has bestowed upon me and the amazing things that are to come "OUR" way. I smile at the joy and achievements individuals around me are experiencing and am humbled by the out pour of gratitude and appreciation people who have been inspired by me share. I pray and empathize with those going through their struggle knowing deep down inside they too shall overcome. I work to help and be a source of motivation, a ray of light and a dose of hope to those who are finding it hard to believe. The Lord is truly working and while we may not understand each moment, each struggle, each accident, each loss or gain, success, gift or achievement we must give thanks. We must move forward, we must continue to work, fight, push and pray to continue striving each and everyday. We often fail to realize that everyday is great. Our challenge is to always acknowledge the greatness in everyday, cease the opportunities, be thankful for life and keep on Moving in Faith. Learning to reflect and share in order to Move forward and bless one another as we are blessed in order to be a blessing on to others. "Z" Tip: Take a step outside of yourself. Allow yourself to observe you. Look at the move from the beginning and watch where your coming from, see where you are and start seeing the ending you desire. The best T.V shows and movies are the ones where we are on the edge of our seats waiting for the next moment, or show to come out. Thinking or wondering what's next but excited for whatever is to come. That is our life and while we never really know what is next we should be excitedly Moving in Faith trusting that it is going to be great. For God has plans for us to prosper and not to fail (Jeremiah 29:11). Love You All, "Z" |
